How to Eat Smarter this Holiday Season
Oh the hustle and bustle of the Holidays!
The time of year for Holiday parties, shopping, decorations, and over-eating!
We all have good intentions:
“I’ll only eat a little” or “I’ll only have one slice of pie” or “I’ll have just one glass of wine”.
Sound familiar?
I have 7 simple tips that will keep you eating smart and keep those extra pounds off!
1. Don’t show up on an empty stomach. Eating a small salad or a handful of nuts prior to your holiday meal will help satisfy your hunger cravings so you eat less and get full faster.
2. Be snobbish with your food choices. Don’t waste calories on chips, crackers or cheese. Go for the main dish or a few of those decadent hors d oeuvres. You’ll be surprised at how fast those food choices will fill you up and leave you feeling satisfied.
3. Put your food on a plate. This is the best way for you to see just how much you are really eating. If you grab a bite here and a bite there you have no way to track what and how much you have eaten. That’s when the calories start to add up!
4. Choices, choices, choices. Make sure your first choice is a salad or vegetables. Always choose the smaller plate. Your eyes can trick your stomach. The bigger the plate is the more you will eat. Once you have filled your plate with healthy choices, there will only be a small amount of room on your plate for sweet treats.
5. Watch those alcoholic drinks. Calories in alcohol add up fast! Not only will alcohol weaken your resistance that can cause you to make unhealthy food choices, it will also double the calories you consume causing an added weight increase.
6. Party drink secret. Drink some sparkling water with a twist of lime at parties. This will save you at least 150 calories every time you do.
7. Continue to exercise. Doing at least 20 minutes of exercise will elevate your metabolism for up to 12 hours, so fit in your workout as much as you can.
I hope you all have a happy and healthy holiday!
